This course will cover the fundamentals of music theory over the course of six sessions.
Topics include:
-The notes of the staves, treble and bass clef
-Ledger lines and the grand staff
-Note duration, rests, dots and ties
-Accidentals
-Measures, time signatures
-Meter
-Major and Minor modes
-Scale degrees
-Key signatures
-Intervals/inversions
-Triads/inversions
-Seventh Chords
-Roman Numeral Analysis
-Common chord progressions
-Phrases/cadences

Jay Gould
Instructor Jay Gould has been performing for over 25 years, and over the past twelve, his teaching career has evolved into a full time job.
Beginning at age 8, Jay took private guitar lessons from several local teachers. After graduating from West Genesee High School, he then studied classical guitar at Onondaga Community College. He then went on to study advanced harmony, arranging, theory and performance at The Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.
Jay has performed a large variety of musical styles on both guitar and bass, and toured extensively. He is proud to have played bass guitar on three Syracuse Area Music Award winning albums.Jay currently performs about 100 live dates per year withthe Fabulous Ripcords and the Ron Spencer Band.
