Derek Yackel is a Producer, Engineer and Musician. He's known for superb ears and a fun, laidback attitude. His ability to foster a creative environment and capture rare “studio magic” is what separates the good from great. Rather than overproduce, he finesses a song to help realize the full vision of the writer/performer.
As a key team member of the then up-and-coming SubCat Music Studios, Derek achieved partner status by 2006, and played a crucial role in developing the company into a world class recording facility, as well as the design of the facility itself. Derek eventually became an independent Mix engineer in 2013, working on projects for notable international artists such as The Wailers (Bob Marley), Zolani Mkiva (Poet Laureate to Nelson Mandella), and the John Butler Trio. During his tenure at Subcat, he had the pleasure of working on projects for Century Media Records, Virgin Records, Whitey Ford (Everlast), Bobaflex, Bruce Katz (Gregg Allman/ The Allman Brothers), Red Light Kings, Sesame St, America’s Most Wanted, Blackbird Management, Producer David Werner (Billy Idol), and The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, amongst many others.
